A lot of people will know Helena Michaelsen from the two first Trail of Tears albums. Later on she was involved in a project called Sahara Dust (later Epica) with Marc Janssens. She moved to Holland from Norway, where she worked on another band called Imperia. As she’s a very busy woman, she also has a solo project called Angel. The first sign of life was with the EP “Don’t Wanna Run”. A Woman’s Diary is their first full-length album. Helena is the main song writer on this album, but she uses the same musicians she works with in Imperia, like for example Steve Wolz (Bethlehem) and Jan Yrland (ex-Ancient Rites). Jan for example was also involved in the process of song writing. Well, you could make a comparison between Angel and Imperia to see what the biggest difference is. The difference is that Angel is less metal and so now and then goes more in the direction of pop music. The reason to use the term pop music is that some songs can be used for airplay. With Angel she has also the possibility to experiment more. The gothic fans however should not be afraid to buy this one, because there are some songs on this album that they will enjoy like ‘Lead You through Fire’. If you’re a fan of this woman, you should buy this one too. André |
